Received his item within 5 days. plugged it in and it immediately goes to work. Use it for backing up my entire computer HDD. Now I don;t have to back up on DVD's or CD's. Setting the keypad password is a bit awkward but not difficult. I am extremely happy I got this product. Thanks Apricorn for a fine product.

It's new - and I was skeptical, but Ultra has fine products - so I bought it.

I'm not disappointed one bit! I really like the aluminum finish. It is a nice DARK aluminum gray.

The power LED is BLUE. And read activity LED is green. They are separate.

It's neatly self contained - no boards seen or subject to dust. Nice little case with the cables coming neatly from the back side.
Uses Molex adapter for power.

The cables are long - which was a concern as I have a large case. Everything reached the MB as it needed to with length to spare even with it in the tower's top most slot.

Some of the cards stick out a ways - meaning they don't go too deeply into the unit. I don't leave my compact flash card in the reader for that reason.

No drivers necessary, but you may have to check your BIOS settings for it work correctly.

The 5.25 adapter it came with is sturdy, but needs MORE HOLES drilled in the thing for stability and proper fit. It's in the case now, but not as sturdy as I would have liked.

I'm not sure why the other reviewers were having such bad luck with this. Perhaps they just don't understand how solid state disks work and what they are good for? I think this drive is very fast and you can't beat the price. We have a couple of them running some Linux and FreeBSD servers and they perform wonderfully.

I just paid $340 for this netbook, and it was well worth the money. I bought it for my wife to use around the house, and to take with her to class. Once she got used to using the smaller 'laptop' she loves it. I did all the research I could and came down to the fact that this was the best buy. The build quality, features (including Bluetooth!), low heat output, and excellent battery life I've seen on it so far make me feel like I could've paid $400 for it.

The first thing I did was try a recovery using the hidden partition. You basically don't need any CD like the one review complained about. The recovery partition acts as your restore cd. The 3 step directions are in the short user manual on how to use it. I restored it to factory settings in about 15 minutes, just to try it out.

Next thing I did was clean up all the extra add-on softare. There's plenty to remove so try out everything first, then decide what you can remove to free up some resources.

Another intersting feature is the 'instant on' feature. It's like another power button, but boots right into a menu that will open a basic web browser and let you get on the internet, all without ever having to wait to boot into Windows. I could see her using it to quickly jump on and look up something.

Adding another 1GB of RAM would probably be nice, but she's not crunching anything intensive on this thing to make it worthwhile. If you're doing a lot of multi-tasking you probably want a beefier laptop anyway. Maybe down the road when the RAM is $20 we'll throw it in, but she's only doing one or two things at a time anyway.

I'm an IT professional and would recommend this over anything else right now to those looking for a netbook. You won't find anything else that compares at this price range.

This kit was installed in a Dell Latitude E6400, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 GHZ, 4GB RAM (upgraded to 8GB a couple of months before this upgrade) and Windows 7-64 that originally shipped with a 160GB drive. This upgrade was an exercise in simplicity:

1. Plugged the new drive into the supplied enclosure, plugged into USB 2, popped in the CD with the ghosting tool and rebooted the laptop.

2. The ghosting tool boots with a graphical application that allows you to pick the source and target drives.

3. Once set to run, it took about 43 minutes to move about 70 GB between my laptop's drive and the new drive connected through USB2.

4. Once the ghost was completed, all left to do was shut down the machine, swap the drives and reboot. For this particular laptop a drive swap involves two phillips screws to allow the drive to slide out, and an extra screw that holds the plastic fascia in place. I don't think I spent five minutes in this step.

5. The first boot up was slow because the laptop ran a hardware check on the new drive. All other boots since have been really fast.

My Windows experience score for hard disk speed went up from 5.9 to 7.0. My machine feels much faster than when I purchased it one year ago. All programs that I use a lot load instantly. My reboot speed experience is in line with most of the other reviews so far, basically I reboot it and before I know the machine is ready for a login. I login and it takes seconds to go through all of the start up items.

In my very subjective opinion, I feel like I got a much better improvement from getting this SSD than from bumping the machine from 4GB to 8GB. I will definitely pick up a second unit for my wife's laptop.

Issues:

1. At least one of my applications requires a key that is built from unique IDs of some hardware items, so I had to regenerate the key. The good news is that the application didn't have trouble regenerating the key, and it did not force me to purchase a new license.

2. The ghosting was not 100% accurate as far as the partitions went, which flipped the dirty flag for the drive. I had to boot the machine with a Windows 7 rescue CD so it could do a checkdisk, which fixed the issue. The machine was never unstable, it just kept trying to do a checkdisk during reboots and it would fail. Using the rescue CD allows Windows to treat that drive as a non-boot drive during the checkdisk, which worked better for my particular situation.

That's it, just those two issues. Everything else has been perfect.

Ran it on a Mac Pro with the CalDigit USB 3.0 PCIe host adapter. The OCZ Enyo clocked 206MB/s READ and 174MB/s WRITE. However, if you only have a USB 2.0 port, it will drop to 38MB/s.

I love my 13.3" MacBook Air, but haven't been so happy with the performance. So when I saw that SSD prices had come down sufficiently, I decided to go SSD. BOY, was THAT the right decision. My MBA screams now, booting so fast from a full shutdown, it's almost like it was just asleep. Launching an app means very little "dock bouncing" and windows that just POP open.

Hard drive replacement in the MacBook Air isn't the easiest operation in the world, and though there are many instructional videos on the web, it's not for the faint of heart. Keep in mind as well, it DOES void your warranty, but since my MBA is a first generation that I wasn't using very much, I didn't feel the pressure.

Great disc. Excellent performance, budget price.

Pros: This is an excellent hard-drive with a convenient cord. Great as far as portable har-drives go. I also enjoy the fact that it has optional encryption software included with it.
Cons: The encryptions software has it's issues, like the fact that the app mounts as a cd-drive, and then tries to load itself (in Vista) multiple times at plug-in, which is a bit annoying. On Win XP, the app works very nicely. And the fact that the Encryption software is included and works, 5 stars.

Unfortunately, my experience with this product is not like that of the other reviewers. I ordered two of these drives--one for myself and one for my wife. I intended for us to use them so that we might use them for our XBoxes--to transfer content from on to the other. Initially, everything seemed to go well. However, in less than a week, my drive began to malfunction. My profile would continually become corrupt (and no, I was not prematurely removing the drive). I thought I was simply unlucky and decided I'd just order another drive down the road. A week later, my wife's drive began to malfunction in a similar fashion. For the past month, we've been using a slower, older 8GB drive, and have yet to have an issue with it.

I've been using Super Talent on my PC--so far, successfully; but I do not use it frequently enough to be able to recommend it for PC use. Still, I'm throwing an extra star in--just in case. Based solely on my experience, however, I am unable to give this drive a favorable recommendation.

I spent too much time reading reviews, so I hope this one is useful for you all:
- Lowest price I found.
- Conected it to my laptop and it recognized it immediately, no installations whatsoever. Works perfect with just a simple USB cable. Real 'plug n play'. No lies from the manufacturer.
- Data transfer seems very fast.
- Very small. Nice finish. Actually, looks like an iPhone. Very light.
How am I using it? Made 3 partitions, 2 NTFS and 1 FAT, to do some Wii-related stuff. If it performed perfect with all that mess I did to it, then it will work perfect to you.

I just got my 1015PEM on Friday. I created a USB install of Ubuntu and installed a 2GB DDR3 stick of RAM I had.

I'm running the latest Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick 64 bit beta, and it's fantastic! Everything works buttery smooth and is working right off (for those of you also using Ubuntu/Linux, the wireless drivers use the Broadcom STA drivers, just install via ethernet connection at first)

The keys and palmrests of smooth, not shiny, and extra comfortable to type on. I transitioned from a full-sized Mac keyboard to this little guy and had no problems adjusting.

The speakers are LOUD at full volume, for such a little thing. Far outshine my Acer 3810t with 'Dolby Experience'.

The power supply is superbly small.

I've been able to watch hulu, etc, just fine.

Last but not least, youtube 720p flash is a little jittery, but some updates in the future may fix this (this is after all, linux. Flash runs MUCH faster in Windows). Given that, there's really no need for 720p as the screen's resolution maxes out at 1024 by 600, so 480p looks (and works) just fine.

Finally, the battery life is outstanding :)

No regrets!

I read the pre-release Engadget reviews of this device and pre-ordered the 32 GB Wi-Drive when available. It took 2 hours for a first-time complete battery charge via USB and mini-USB adapter. When I first connected to the computer, I saw that the drive was named KINGSTON, not WI-DRIVE, but it was easy to rename under either OS X or Windows 7. It took only 10 minutes to get things running. First, I loaded 10 full-movie video and 50 audio song files to test the device with 3 different iPads and turned the unit on by simply pushing the side button which has a green indicator light. Then go to your iPad/iPhone and download the free Apple Wi-Drive app, go to Network settings and select the WI-DRIVE network which is broadcast from the unit with blue indicator lights. There are no security settings by default so anyone nearby can connect to the drive. Open the Wi-Drive app and go to the setting button icon which you can set security WEP/WPA/WPA2 settings and complete your WiFi access point setup.

The app interface is just like using Dropbox or GoodReader and the menus are nicely designed. The audio and video files are listed on the left menu and simple to select. Now comes the great part, I used 3 different iPads to connect at the same time to the Wi-Drive and selected 3 different movies for each iPad and the movies ran perfectly without a single buffer hiccup. This problem plagues the Seagate GoFlex Satellite. I read comments by others who appear to be overly impressed by the 500GB storage which is functionally limited. The GoFlex menu is slow and does not permit sorting, drops connections and streaming video are choppy at times. The worst feature of the GoFlex is that it does not truly stream media, but rather sends a copy of the media file to your iDevice unlike the WiDrive which truly streams files allowing the user to maximize storage capacity. I just wanted a simple portable network device that will keep everyone in the car happy watching their own movies or listening to their own music. I was pleased to see that 3 different devices can access this portable WiFi network drive without any degradation of media streaming quality. Of course I wish we could have 64 GB or more storage, but 32 GB is fine for day trips and can still hold more than enough media files to satisfy everyone's preferences.

The next nice feature is the ability of the drive to connect to another WiFi network which you also configure in the setting button icon. For example, you're with the family at Starbucks and connect the Wi-Drive to the free Starbucks WiFi using the iOS app. The Wi-Drive reboots, connects to Starbucks network and now every one of your 3 other devices can access streaming media files on the Wi-Drive and also access the Internet using the Starbucks connection. Remember, you have to connect your device to the Wi-Drive network to use your files, but this network setting still allows you to retain internet access at the same time.

The drive is just a bit smaller than my iPhone 4 and very light. Unfortunately, the unit doesn't appear to work while plugged in to recharge. I was hoping that I could connect the device to a car outlet to continuously power the device on long trips since it is advertised to last only 4-5 hours on a single charge. Looks like you'll have to perform a complete recharge when it runs out which will take several hours using the provided adapter.

Summary - this is the best available portable media streaming network device for the iPad/iPhone which works well and simple to use with excellent streaming speeds. Definitely happy with my pre-order decision and suspect these units will sellout fast. Enjoy.

I downgraded it to 4 stars after 2 days of use. File transfers are problem-free and easy to do remmebering that you can only use media files recognized by iOS (eg. mp4, m4v). Programs like Air Video Server are better for local networks allowing live conversion of all other media file types like avi and flv. So if you use other file types, you're stuck with having to use a conversion program which there are plenty available for free. Media streaming to multiple iOS devices works perfectly without any stutters. The main problem I see is the battery life which runs closer to 3 hours rather than 4 hours with constant streaming to more than one device. Contrary to other recent online reviews which makes me question whether some reviewers actually use their products, you CANNOT recharge this device with the miniUSB adapter while using the device. For example, if you have a long car trip, you will only have a little over 3 hours of use and then you'll have to recharge for a few hours using a USB car adpater or whatever else. The access point does not work while recharging. Some reviewers talk about using a plane adapter, but it still won't work while plugged in and I think it's a bad idea and just wrong to use this on a plane since this creates an unauthorized WiFi access point which may interfere with the plane electronics. I think it would be a major improvement if the AC adapter was permitted to continuously charge the lithium battery while in use allowing uninterrupted streaming. That would make it the ultimate traveling companion. Also, even with the 32 GB option space is limited and you will be forced to delete and add other files as time goes on which is a why a 64 GB SSD upgrade would be something I would be willing to pay extra.

Used this on 2 summer car trips and camping and the kids used this a lot. We had 3 iPads streaming 3 different movies from the WiDrive all at the same time without any stutters. Battery life seemed a bit better with average times of 3.5 - 4 hours in between charges. It works so well, that each of the kids now want their own personalized movie lists which is forcing me to constantly remove and upload movies to the WiDrive limited to only 32 GB (~ 25 movies encoded for iPad at medium quality settings). The perfect device would combine the functionality of the WiDrive with the space of the GoFlex Satellite. We have a 64GB iPad and 2 16GB iPads, and this fits our needs perfectly by serving as a portable media drive since the iPads are full of apps/photos/games/books/etc. The kids can keep all their games and not waste precious space with huge media files.

Construction seems fairly good. I can't comment on the little keyring hole as the other reviewer did. I don't find those holes large enough on most drives to actually use on a normal keyring.

The drive is fast though, and performs at the peak of usb 2.0 drives, and that's one measure that is important to USB sticks in everyday use if you're copying around large enough files to justify having a 16GB drive.

Obviously this device is not inexpensive, but if you want added security then this is the best. The key is very easy to use; because the key will self-destruct after only 10 failed attempts a password of moderate strength is all that is required. The on-board Identity Manager is a very good App, but did not transfer all of my passwords from Roboform, which I highly recommend. I installed Roboform2Go. Roboform2Go is resident on the key, it produces random passwords and has its own encryption, giving 2 layers of encryption for passwords and safenotes, another great feature. Would have given the Ironkey 5 stars if the included Identity Manager worked better.

The on-board version of Firefox is not only more secure, but with a password manager everything needed to more safely do business on the web is always available. All of this still leaves plenty of room to store sensitive financial and personal identity documents and information. And all of this is unavailable as soon as the key is locked and removed from the computer.

Finally a portable and secure password keeper, document vault, and browser.

BTW, also recommend adding the BetterPrivacy add-on to help keep the key clean. BetterPrivacy removes LSO's (Local Shared Objects); LSO's are very similar to cookies, but are not removed by Firefox.

Update:

First, Ironkey support is great! After backing up my Ironkey, I attempted to update the device; this caused an irreparable error. Called support, after looking for info in forums, and they requested a copy of my receipt, sent them a copy, an RMA was approved in a couple of days, and a replacement arrived a few days after that, all very quick and painless. They even followed up to ensure everything was OK. They assured me that their engineers had resolved the issue and there would be no problem with future updates.

The new device was initiated and the encrypted backup was restored without a problem to the new Ironkey. Within a few weeks another update became available, after backing up again, I went ahead with the new update, and, much to my relief, the update went smoothly!

Many thanks to Ironkey, Ironkey support, and their engineers. This is a great product and the company understands that in the end, support is how a customer base is retained and expanded!

First I will state my purpose and usage so you know why I chose this device, then I will provide my comments. I was looking for a 4GB+ device that would be used exclusively for running portable applications. U3 devices would be acceptable, but speed is paramount for these type of devices. My research indicates if you are using a device for Vista ReadyBoost, you need the speed as well; however, I don't have Vista and wouldn't use this device for that anyway (because of my current needs for it). Secondarily, I am in IT and frequently loosing caps and/or having them wear out. So any design that would fit in most computers next to another USB stick while still keeping the cap attached was a big bonus. Cost was a third factor in the equation.

I shortlisted this device with the Corsair Voyager GT, Corsair Survivor (& Survivor GT), & OCZ ATV Turbo due to speeds attainable. While this is probably the slowest of the devices, it was also the least costly. Availability was another issue with the OCZ ATV line of devices at the time of purchase. In the end, it was cost and cap design that drove me to this device over the others. While they are certainly capable devices, some of them were twice the price of this one. Also, due to their focus on durability, they were generally larger, especially around the support shoulders where they could prevent other devices from connecting on many computers.

The speed of this device does not disappoint. It is very fast compared to other devices I have had (mostly Sandisk cruiser line) and much larger capacity to boot. The swing cap is a big bonus and does not get in the way at all. Occasionally, it will swing sideways while inserted in the computer, but this is only when I bump it and these bumps could normally cause the device to disconnect at best and break at the shoulder at worst. So this is actually a benefit in disguise. On the down side, it is rather long, so when it is plugged in, it is somewhat more likely to get bumped. Also on the down side, the device feels flimsy. Maybe it is just the swing cap, but it just doesn't feel very durable. This is not a bad thing for me, but if you are clumsy with your devices, steer clear.

All in all, I would rate this device overall a 4+ out of 5. Each person buys these things for different reasons, and if you are looking for a device that is fast, relatively cheap, and has an integrated cap, this is your device. If you are looking for something sturdy or physically small while still maintaining large capacity, look elsewhere.

I also own a 16GB DISKGO SECURE GUARDIAN. Let me compare the two.

(1) The Bolt's software needs some improvements. When you unlock the Bolt drive, you can't have a second USB drive attached to your computer (However, you can attach other USB drives AFTER you've unlocked the Bolt). That's not the case for the Guardian. The Guardian won't have any conflicts with other USB drives.

(2) The Bolt shows up as two separate drives (one for the data and one for the Bolt software). I don't know about you, but I am annoyed by that. The Guardian has everything in one place and uses only one drive letter.

(3) The Guardian software allows you to store contact information, which is very helpful because someone who finds your lost drive can contact you using that information.

(4) By now you may want to ask me: if Guardian is so great, why did you buy a Bolt? The only reason: Guardian's exterior design is crap!! Absolutely crap! After two months of use, the cap felt apart and I had to glue it back, and the cap didn't fit well from the beginning. Then the rubber ring around the USB tip also fell off and exposed the electronics. I was worrying that one day the whole thing was gong to fall apart or short-circuited (because now the electronics are very much exposed). That's why I decided to buy a Bolt as a replacement. I will see how it fares vs. the Guardian in terms of performance. Will report back in three months.

(5) just did a simple test of write speed (based on large file transfer). The Bolt reported 8MB/s and the Guardian only 5MB/s. However, as the Guardian I have is one year old, it is possible that newly shipped Guardian may have comparable write speeds. Write speeds range between 5-15 MB/s.

More than I expected, for the price this is a great product, it has played every format I have in my external 500GB HDD with great video and sound quality.

These are the Pros I want to highlight:
1.Video & sound quality, this streamer supports up to 1080p and do it great, using HDMI cable the sound's great too.
2.Video modes, I like to watch my movies in full screen mode even if they come in 4:3 or 16:9, this device supports many video modes like: movie mode, subtitle mode, full screen mode, wide screen mode, etc, so no matter how is your movie formatted, you can always get your HDTV screen full.
3.Subtitles, I live in Costa Rica and although I'm doing OK with English I really like foreign films, especially oriental, and this device has no problems with subtitles, you can change position, size and even color.
4.Menu, it comes with a nice menu (isn't the PS3 menu, but come on), and I think the response time and reception from the remote is good, you don't need to be right in front of the device to make it work
5.Additional features, I just wanted a media streamer for the movies and videos in my HDD, however this device has some more features like Internet Radio, Picasa and Flickr access, UPnP streaming from PCs on your LAN, photo and audio files streaming, All of them works OK

And these are the Cons I found:
1.This device can read DVD .ISO images and load the entire menu on your screen, this is a really cool feature and it works most of the time, however I've had issues with some particular images, sometimes I can't enter to all the features on the menu, and sometimes it won't read the file at all, I don't know if there is some particular reason for that, maybe the software you use to make the image or something.
2.You must be careful when watching a movie to avoid touch the Menu of any other button on the remote that take you out of the movie because I haven't found any way to come back again to the point I was watching.
3.Don't lose the remote since there's no way to use the device without it.

Overall I really like this device, it's very functional, cheap and has cool features, I recommend this one if you're looking for something that do the job really well and is not so expensive.
