I have been owning some rugged drives already for the past years and have never been disappointed. I use them at work to exchange large files between PCs and Macs and the Rugged Triple USB3.0 is the best version so far as it is the fastest on Mac with FireWire 800 and fastest on PCs with USB 3.0. It is more than 3 times faster on PC thanks to the SuperSpeed USB 3.0. The product is great and secure with the rubber sleeve and anti shock design.

Sandisk Extreme FireWire Reader Review

I wanted to take advantage of 1394B 800MB Firewire on my Windows XP PC so I bought a Firewire 800 card. However, I was not able to achieve the dramatic transfer speeds that others do. After researching, I found out that Microsoft CRIPPLED Firewire in Windows XP SP2! It is limited to 100MB. They provide a fix but you have to look for it by searching the Microsoft Knowledge Base MSKB for "firewire" and you will find the patch to download. You may also have to edit your registry.
Why did this happen and why has it not been fixed? Why doesn't Sandisk warn us about it? Who knows, but I hope this information helps you.

A new writer recently got a Sony Cybershot and brought in his Memory Stick and disk adapter for us to download his pictures onto our Macintosh systems. Here's what we found out:
1: It does not work with external USB floppy drives (took forever to come up- and then it showed a blank 32K disk.
2: Switched to an older 61xx PowerPC Mac - the floppy drive showed up faster, but showed a blank 41K disk.
3: tried using the utility CD that came with it - It had a conflict with the PC Exchange/File Exchange extension. We turned THAT off and restarted- and the utility promptly started up and froze the machine.
4: tried using the gadget on a Mavica FD 87 Sony Camera - it didn't work. that answered my long-standing question on that matter.

This is a fantastic upgrade to a computer system. The Intel G2 drives support TRIM when upgraded with the latest firmware. Windows 7 automatically support TRIM. TRIM increases the drive's performance and efficiency.

Upgrading from an HD to a good SSD like an Intel SSD will result in a SIGNIFICANT performance improvement unlike make other upgrades you may make, like a bump in CPU performance, memory, or video card. An SSD is many times faster than an HD in many important ways and has a big impact on the responsiveness of a computer.

The Intel is even price competitive with other SSD offerings.

Pros:
* SPEED
* Significantly faster than a VelociRaptor 10,000 RPM hard drive
* Superior controller design vs other manufacturers
* Windows 7 scores this drive a 7.8 (highest possible is 7.9)
* Low power consumption, great for notebooks especially (but also good for desktops)
* Works just like a regular 2.5 inch drive so works great in SATA notebooks
* Retail version comes with a metal 2.5" to 3.5" adapter for desktop use
* Supports TRIM with latest firmware (G2 - second generation drives)
* Latest firmware upgrades sequential write speed to about 100MB/s from 80MB/s (160GB version only)
* Can download "Intel SSD Toolbox" to view drive information and optimize the drive

Cons:
* Expensive compared to HD's
* Slower sequential write speed than some competitors - but for many this does not significantly affect overall performance

Other:
* My suggestion: Use an SSD for OS and applications and an HD for storage (like a Western Digital green drive)

This flash drive seems to be ok, but I was hoping for something faster. I moved 11GB of my digital scrapbooking paper from my XP to my new laptop using Windows 7 OS and it seemd to take forever (nearly an hour from what I remember). I never tried to move that much at one time before, so I don't know if that is normal or not.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone. I got this flash drive to add to the storage space I have for portability and love it. It is plenty fast, very strong, solid, and nice looking (hey that is a bonus). Even if you don't anticipate on using U3 I would still purchase this because it is still fast and durable.

Excellent data transfer speed. Retractable USB plug is great. Overall extremely pleased with build and functionality. Before purchasing I have always leaned toward Sony Microvault due to the retractable feature. Now I have a second choice. As with all drives, 32GB does not mean this is the available storage you actually have 29.8GB available. I have briefly used the backup feature. Basically you can select any directory and the Flash Dive will back that directory up by pressing the button on the Flash drive. There are additional feature that allow for customizing the backup process. Hope this helps somebody.

I tried this drive on 3 different OS's (Windows ME, Ubuntu 8.04.1, and Windows XP). Windows ME / Ubuntu 8.04.1 dual boot was running on an Asus A7M266 motherboard PC with an ALi USB 2.0 expansion card. Windows XP was running on a Dell OptiPlex 745 (integrated Intel ICH8 USB 2.0 chipset). It worked fine on all setups, no issues with hardware detection. It is formatted to FAT32 from the factory (the most compatible file system, but you may want to reformat it to NTFS if you only use Windows XP/Vista). The capacity is a little less than the stated 64GB (Windows reports 59.8GB). Transcend uses the same dishonest (in my opinion) tactic the hard drive manufacturers use of calling a megabyte 1000x1000 bytes instead of what it really is (1024x1024 bytes). The cap to cover the USB interface seems flimsy / easily broken, the plastic isn't very thick. The drive does not seem especially fast (took several hours to copy 50GB worth of data to it), but I use it only for offline storage anyway. Overall I'm pleased with the high capacity and especially the compatibility (any USB compatible operating system should work, even Windows 98SE and Mac OS 9, per Transcend's web site).

I needed something that could run 24/7 as a file server that could be occasionally used as a Desktop. While I would not recommend this as an everyday desktop, it gets the job done.

Pros:
Size
Solid Build - High quality contruction, feels like a mini business class desktop.
Low Power Usage
Took only 10 minutes to install ram, hard drive and dvd burner.
External power supply reduces heat (laptop type ac adapter).
For much less than $300 I was able to build a 1tb file server that will outperform just about any NAS in that price range.

Cons:
No WDDM 1.1 support for the 945 chipset. This cripples Aero performance when using Windows 7. No linux drivers for this chipset, forcing VESA drivers.

Loud - The single fan is louder than I expected. I'm looking into replacing the fan.

You can not run 2 hard drives at the same time due to power limitations. Not an issue for most people, but worth a mention if somebody is planning on using the ODD sata port for a 2nd hard drive...

Other thoughts:
After reading rave reviews of Windows 7's performance on netbooks I thought this would be a no brainer. I did not take into consideration the low netbook resolution which is much easier on the graphic chip than my 19" monitor is. Disabling some visual effects like transparent windows and animations helps, but Windows XP may be a better option for everday use.

Edit: After trying everything from Ubuntu to Windows 7, I've found that Windows XP runs better than anything else on this. Everything works the way you would expect it to in XP, while everything else either suffered from less than full hardware support or inconsistent performance. (end edit)

Built in CF slot is perfect for a permanent ready boost solution.

Performance is exactly what I expected. A quieter fan and a chipset that supports WDDM 1.1 would have earned it a 5th star. No regrets here...

This is a great drive. It is fast, silent, and seems to be reliable. It works well with my PC and Laptop. However, there are two minor quirks. 1)I use an IBM Thinkpad X31 laptop. When I boot up with the Seagate drive plugged into my USB port, my IBM system won't boot up unless the Seagate drive is disconnected. I changed my BIOS boot priorities to ignore the Seagate drive, but that didn't work. 2) The drive comes with two "pigtails" on the USB cable. One "pigtail" is labelled data + power, the other pigtail is labelled power only. It seems like this drive may consume more power than other drives and Seagate was forced to add an additional pigtail to draw power from a second USB port. Apparently, my PC's USB port provides enough power so the 2nd "pigtail" isn't used.

If you want a good, reliable drive, you can't go wrong with a Seagate drive.

I bought this NAS a few weeks ago. The hardware is fine so far. But I am really disappointed by the level of support Patriot has put behind it -- practically none. The Patriot tech forum for this product is pretty much deserted by Patriot (Google and you will find it). There are only users asking questions and complaining, trying to bring attention to someone from Patriot, but nobody answers the call. Before I bought it, I thought a new firmware release was due end of March. But it didn't happen and there is no information on when it will finally arrive. I wished I had waitedand observed the zero activity level from Patriot before I ordered the product. I thought this is a new product and Patriot will be actively supporting it like other notable NAS vendors. But it looks like Patriot might be planning to take the cash and let the product die off. [See update below]

Update: July 2010

1. Thanks to some expert user(s)on the support forum. The device was hacked and a workaround was provide for telnet with root access. That opened the door for customization (tweaking).

2. It was reported at the forum that there was a new firmware release available as of 7/2/2010. I didn't test it -- will wait for more user feedback before upgrading. But this does show that Partiot is continuing the support of this product so far.

I lost my recent 16gig flash drive and I just had to upgrade. From all the reviews I read online this brand seemed to have the best speed and it surely lived up to it's name. This Diesel USB is small enough to fit on my keychain with no problem....nice and light. And great speed. I love it. For $50, a 32gb flash drive is amazing.
